金刚界为始觉上转之法门，转在迷之九识，成五种之果智，故分类为五部。今为便于解释，列之如次：一莲华部，众生心中有本有净菩提心清净之理，在六道生死之泥中不染不垢，犹如莲华之由泥中出生，不染不垢，故名莲华部。二金刚部，众生自心之理所，又有本有之智。在生死之泥中经无数劫，不朽不坏，能破烦恼，如金刚之久埋没泥中，不朽不坏，故名金刚部。三佛部，此理智在凡位未显，入果位则理智显现，觉道圆满，故名佛部。四宝部，佛之万德圆满中，福德无边，故名宝部。五羯磨部，羯磨译曰作业，佛为众生而垂悲愍，成办一切之事业，名羯磨部（秘藏记本）。此中前二者，为在缠之因德，第三者为理智具足出缠之果位。是即胎藏界之三部也（其次第为佛莲金）。后二者，于佛部中别开之。佛为二利圆满之称，其自证之边云宝部，其化他之边云羯磨部。如是于佛部中开二部，原为胎藏界曼荼罗之意，胎藏界曼荼罗，上中下中之通者，总曰佛部，此中下方有虚空藏院，是宝部也。上方有释迦院，是羯磨部也。由此论之，胎金之三五，仅开合之异耳（秘藏记私钞三）。佛部为大日如来，金刚部为阿閦佛，宝部为宝生佛，莲华部为阿弥陀佛，羯磨部为不空成就佛，也就是释迦牟尼佛。
