朝鲜王国的世宗大王于1443年（世宗25年）12月创建训民正音（即朝鲜谚文），在全国广泛发布是1446年（世宗28年），在标记韩语方面有着独创性和科学性。
字母和音素上有着很强的关联性。虽然朝鲜国创建了自己的文字系统，但是在朝鲜国的统治阶层两班中仍然偏好使用汉字。训民正音的表音字母系统一直到20世纪才开始大量使用。
口音划分：
“韩国语”在中华人民共和国[3] 和日本国[4] ，语言学方面的学术名称为“朝鲜语” 。但在中国和日本民间中，也经常称韩国语(かんこくご)或韩语。
有其他方式查询表示，无论在大陆（内地）、中国香港、中国台湾 和澳门、还是海外、“韩语(韩国语)”称呼的实际使用频率已经超过“朝鲜语”称呼。

书面文字基本没有差异，大体汉字居多，配合韩文，不过有两个特点需要特别注意
1、韩国汉字用词多与中国一致采用日本词汇，近代外来引进的绝大多数都是日本创造中韩拿来，比如科学、民主、政治、等等等等都是参照日本词汇引进，朝鲜也参照但是特别少。
2、韩国语中西化比较严重，大部分词汇用英文发音所替代比如经常喊的fighting~等等，你看哪个朝鲜人喊过，不是不让喊是不知道，中国朝鲜族跟朝鲜比较接近，少用外来语语速较快传承起和少，没有太多语气词发音，而韩国语语调婉转，多语气词与敬语相对亲和度较高。
总的来说，这俩国家从建国开始就“去中国化”，结果还是无法彻底抛弃汉字。
朝鲜跟韩国一样，日本占领朝鲜半岛以前，全部都使用汉字。
日本占领朝鲜后，总督被刺后，朝鲜划入日本，开始学日本，朝鲜半岛民间开始偷偷学习谚文，以示反抗。
二战结束后，朝鲜和韩国各自建国，开始推行谚文，减少汉字的比重。
如今的文字一样，只是一些固定的词语出现大量不同，但互相沟通问题不大。
