Actually, Stuart, I'm a first-rate snob who simply hides it from the public. But thanks for the compliment. Here's my question: Why do you assume that the majority of wine aficionados disrespect our humble friend beer? The enlightened crowd I run with believes that well-made beer has a place at the table alongside wine, sake, iced tea and Halle Berry's bathwater. Wine isn't the best partner with everything - it doesn't go particularly well with foods that are salty or spicy-hot, or dishes that involve cabbage, whereas beer does. And it's a draw between wine and beer when it comes to burgers, pizza and steak, in my view. Plus, what do the judges at wine competitions crave at the end of their day? Beer!
