1、both作同位语时，一般用在助动词、系词之后，实义动词之前； 但为了强调，both也可置于助动词或系词之前，如一个句子中，既有助动词又有系动词时，可用在助动词后，系动词之前。但是不能紧放在代词前。
2、both与复数名词连用时，若该名词前有the，these或物主代词，其前用both或both of均可，当both跟who或人称代词搭配时只能用both of。
3、both用作代词时，一般不用于否定句，如用否定句也只表示部分否定，不是“都不”而是“不都”。
both的反义词
1、neither用作代词时表示“两者都不”，可单独使用，用于没有冠词、物主代词、指示代词等限定词修饰的单数名词前，用作主语时，谓语动词用作单数形式，也可以和介词of连用，后接复数名词或人称代词，名词前面一定要有限定词修饰。
2、neither作主语时，谓语动词在大多数情况下用第三人称单数形式，但在neither of。。。后可以用单数形式，也可以用复数形式。
both后可直接跟名词，如果名词前有限定词修饰的话，就必须用 both of 。
both 可以单独使用，直接跟名词，或者动词。
both of 后接名词或者代词，但是名词前必须有限定词the 等，谓语动词用复数 。
