会叫的知了都是雄性知了。雄性知了腹部因为有蜂鸣器。所以会通过震动蜂鸣器而发声。而雌性不会叫。雄性的知了叫是为了完成交配的使命。它的叫声可以吸引。雌性知了来进行交配。

这是因为知了分为雌雄两种，只有雄知了腹部有鸣器能发出叫声吸引雌知了，雌知了会听到叫声后飞往雄知了那里。
