“中国虎”——新6军军长：廖耀湘新6军入东北近3年败仗极少，最终 打到伪满洲国首府长春，使东北国军的势力达到了顶峰。直到辽沈战役在辽西新3军龙天武得空军通知东野6纵逼近，但他疏忽未将紧急情报及时上报兵团部，导致警戒的新22师先被6纵突袭击溃，东野“旋 风部队”第3纵队楔入砸碎兵团部，打烂了新1、3、6军3个军部（纯是巧合，当时攻击的3纵第7师21团3营还以为是个团部，直到打进去看到文件才知道是 兵团部。韩先楚后来也回忆到，要是知道是廖的兵团部，怎么也得派一个团去打。运气也不在国军这边，冥冥之中，似有天意？）。而打到最后掩护廖耀湘突围的还 是新22师。林总在辽西会战对新22师还是很有戒备的，可惜周围境况变了，兵败如山倒的危亡战局下，素来战无不克的新22师也独木难撑，回天无力。

最后的王牌——第5军 军长：邱清泉1948年12月淮海战役中在陈官庄附近时被解放军包围，困守40多天，49年1月9日，解放军发动总攻击，45、46两师大部分缴械，200师突围被歼灭。五大主力中最后一个香消玉陨。

第五军：杜聿明、邱清泉；淮海战役于陈官庄被歼灭

整编十一师：胡琏、杨伯涛；淮海战役于双堆集被歼灭
