11月18日上午7时许，上海大学延长路校区内，一名女生从4楼宿舍坠下，经抢救无效不幸身亡。
经公安机关现场勘查并校方陪同家属多次现场查看，该大三女生于当日7时许站在宿舍走廊窗台旁打电话，不料窗户扣锁不牢固且窗台高度只有75厘米（《宿舍建筑设计规范》（JGJ 36-2005）对外窗的规定不得低于或等于90厘米），在没有安装防护栏的情况下，导致该学生最终无防护坠楼。
据死者的同学介绍，事发时听到“砰”的一声巨响，出去一看，只见这名女生满身是血，倒在宿舍楼前，痛苦地呻吟着。同学立刻报警，120赶到后迅速将女生送往附近医院抢救，但其终因伤重不治身亡。
经了解，死者事发前多次敲其他宿舍房门，并未得到宿舍管理人员回应，由于该宿舍楼男女生混住，怀疑死者是由于不能回到自己宿舍而致。
11月24日下午，死者生前的小学、初中并高中同学集合至上海大学延长校区内的事发地为死者举行了哀悼仪式，气氛浓重。而上海大学的死者同学因校方未表态，还未进行追思仪式。
距离今日，死者头七已过，却仍在医院太平间，而校方领导正在与学生家属商议赔偿事宜！
