1975年，中国珠峰登山队（党委书记王富洲，队长史占春），由汉、藏、回、蒙古、朝鲜、土、鄂温克等7个兄弟民族的队员组成，共434人，其中运动员179人，包括女运动员36人，其余255人有科考、气象、通讯、新闻、医务、交通运输、炊事及其他后勤人员，绝大部分成员来自工农兵。全队从3月初进山，6月初撤营。经过多次行军（前三次是适应性行军，后两次是突击顶峰），在1975年5月27日北京时间下午2时30分，女队员潘多和8名男队员索南罗布、罗则、侯生福、桑珠、大平措、贡嗄巴桑、次仁多吉、阿布钦，继1960年中国登山队王富洲、贡布、屈银华首次从北坡登上珠峰之后，再次从北坡登上了这个地球的最高点。
