在企业经营的各个环节中，营销也好，决策也好，如果能利用好危机这个事件，把坏事变成好事，可以有效地快速地起到别的方法起不到的作用。我们说危机是机遇，而这个机遇就是变革的动力所在。
例如百事可乐公司对“针头事件”的处理：
百事可乐与可口可乐几度争抢霸主地位。但在激烈竞争过程中，一次突发事件险些使百事可乐陷入被挤出市场的危机，这就是“针头事件”。
久闻百事可乐清新爽口的威廉斯太太从超级市场买了两筒百事可乐给孩子。回家后，喝完一筒，觉得味道不错，无意中将罐筒倒扣于桌上，竟然有枚针头被倒了出来。威廉斯太太大惊失色，立即向新闻界捅出此事，可口可乐公司也趁机大肆宣传自己的产品，一时间，百事可乐难得有人问津。
百事可乐公司一得到“针头事件”消息，立即采取了措施，一方面通过新闻界向威廉斯太太道歉，并请她讲述事件经过，感谢她对百事可乐的信任，感谢她给百事可乐把了质量关，给予威斯太太一笔可观的奖金以示安慰。还通过媒介向广大消费者宣布：谁若在百事可乐中再发现类似问题，必有重奖。另一方面，在公司百事可乐生产线上更加严格地进行质量检验，并请威廉斯太太参观，使威廉斯太太确信百事可乐质量可*，并赢得了这位女士的赞扬。
在对“针头事件”的处理中，百事可乐公司充分利用了“奇正相生”的原理。一方面，向威廉斯太太道歉和赔偿是“正”，体现了企业的诚信品质；另一方面，通过媒介向广大消费者宣布的有奖宣传则“奇”；然后返过头来在产品质量上进行严格的质量检验，又是“正”。正是通过这一系列的危机应对措施，不仅使企业顺利地度过了危机，还达到了宣传的目的，真正做到了化被动为主动。
以正合，还要求企业在日常管理中就应该做防患于未然，不能事事都等到危机出现以后才去想办法，这就是“预危机管理”的概念。这种观念十分重要，因为“奇”是兵行险着，只要在非常时期才拿出来使用，这种时候往往是企业的危机关头，所以，能不用还是不用的好。
所以，危机管理在绝大多数情况下都不是等危机出现了以后的才开始的管理。正如国内著名的危机管理研究者游昌乔先生所言，危机既是危险，又是机会，危机管理是“刀尖上的舞蹈”。
又如2003年“非典”期间，许多制药和相关行业的企业，利用这次危机带来的机遇，通过大胆正确有效的行动，取得了巨大的成果。在全国人民热情响应“勤洗手”的号召时，威露士以“家庭消毒专家”身份亮相，取得了销量、品牌双丰收，一举奠定了在重点城市的布局定位，这是善于利用外部危机的典型案例。
企业的风险无处不在、无时不有，任正非才会说自己做企业“战战兢兢，如履薄冰”。研究显示中国民营企业的平均寿命只有2．9年， 60%的企业将在5年内破产，85%的企业将在10年内消亡。壳牌（SHELL）石油公司曾经对世界前500名企业跟踪调查13年，得出结论：一般大企业平均寿命40年，是人类平均寿命的一半。许多曾经非常优秀的企业早已不复存在，个中原因很多。但归根结底，是因为企业经营管理中存在的各种风险问题的爆发而导致企业最终消亡，三鹿、雷曼就是前车之鉴。
