“究竟是文学还是娱乐，这是一个值得思考的问题。”华中科技大学的付丹老师表示，“口水诗”这一概念的产生很大程度上来源于媒体的推波助澜，而大多数网友也并没有了解一些话题诗人的全部作品，仅仅截取了某些作品的某一个片段加以关注并嘲讽，以此来表现诗歌的一种“粗鄙化”趋势。武汉大学的严靖老师则认为，我们要慎重考虑文学语言与非文学语言的差别，如作家乌青引发激烈争论的那首《对白云的赞美》，就不应该被归于诗的范畴，更难以称其为好诗。华中师范大学老师、著名诗人曾巍也发表了自己的看法，他认为诗歌拥有着无限的可能性，我们不应当僵化诗歌的界限。然而，“口水诗”虽然作为一种策略拓宽了诗歌的可能性，但却反映出了一种“倒退的经验”，这值得我们反思。
一字之差 “口水”与“口语”要仔细区分
武汉大学的叶李老师从“口水诗”与“口语诗”这两个定义着手，认为应当对这两个概念进行区分。“口水诗”是指像流口水一样随意写、随便说文字，而口语诗则是以口语来入诗、写诗。她说，“诗歌应当是语言、经验、形式的相互权衡与纠缠，而‘口水诗’却很少顾及到这些层面的需求，因此也并没与太大的价值。但是‘口语诗’却不同，将口语入诗是完全没有问题的”。谈到“口语诗”，华中师范大学曾巍老师也给出了自己的观点，他认为评判一首诗应当遵循两个标准，“一是经验，二是惊奇”。作为一种写作策略，“口语诗”刻意去除了一些诗歌技巧，表面上看起来简单随意，实际上具有更高的写作难度。
备受争议 “口水诗”该何去何从
“诗歌其实是生活的一面镜子。”华中师范大学的付立松同学认为，旧体诗的时代早已过去，“直白化”已成为诗坛的趋势所在，因此我们应当以包容的心态对待“口水诗”，在质疑它的同时，我们更应当以它来反观当下的生活状态。武汉大学的叶李老师也表示，“口水诗”的出现与争议有助于探索新诗的道路与诗歌的可能性。华中师范大学曾巍老师则指出，诗歌应当兼具“镜”与“灯”的作用——既反映生活，又能指引生活的方向。他谈到，以口语入诗的“口语诗”是民间写作立场的延续，就其反对艰深、晦涩的诗作这一功用而言，它具有着积极的意义。但“口水诗”却是被大众传媒所绑架的产物，从这一角度考虑，以讲废话或反崇高为目的这类“口水诗”仍然是不值得提倡的。
