（1）太古宙－元古宙时期“原始矿源岩系”的形成。胶东地区变质基底的变质岩系和TTG岩系，统称为胶东内生金矿的“原始矿源岩系”，它是胶东金矿金质的主要来源，这一时期的成矿作用称为金矿形成的“雏形期”。
（2）元古代晋宁期“衍生矿源岩系”的形成。胶东地区在华北板块与扬子板块的碰撞对接作用，板块活动，孕育了“衍生矿源岩系”——震旦期玲珑超单元的形成定位。金在基体中活化转移再分配，形成在岩体边部的高背景地球化学区，为中生代早期最终成矿作用奠定基础。期间的成矿作用称为胶东金矿的“预富集期”。
（3）中生代印支期－燕山早期（205～120Ma）“直接矿源岩”的形成与成矿。在太平洋板块持续向欧亚板块挤压俯冲作用下，陆内板块和沂沭断裂带大规模左行平移活动，导致在原始和衍生矿源岩系组成的隆起地壳上，大规模壳幔混合岩浆的侵入，形成郭家岭超单元的定位与成矿。
