　　贯穿于有清三百年的历史发展历程中，名家辈出，风格多样。清隶为清代碑学的兴起，从根本上击溃帖学垄断的僵局，起到了重中之重的历史作用。典册告诉人们，有清一代擅长隶书的名家达500人之多。清代早期的隶书名家有：郭允伯(?-1652)、万授一(1659- 1741)、王嵩樵(1592-1652)、王烟客(1592-1680)、王虚舟(1668-1743)、傅青主(1607-1684)、郑谷口(1622-1693)、朱竹坨(1629-1709)、垢道人(1605-1691)、林吉人(1660-?)、周亮工(1612-1672)；清代中期的隶书名家有：邓石如(1743- 1805)、伊墨卿(1754-1817)、曲江外史(1687-1763)、南阜山人(1683-1748)、汪近人(1686-1762)、高西唐(1688-1753)、郑克柔(1693-1765)、杨石(上宀下戊)(1696-?)、罗两峰(1733-1799)、龙泓山人(1695-1765)、黄小松(1744-1802)、奚冈 (1746-1803)、陈曼生(1768-1822)、巴隽堂(1744-1793)、桂馥(1736-1805)、翁方纲(1733-1818)、阮芸台(1764-1849)、钱立群(1759-1844)、张文鱼(1738-1814)；清代晚期的隶书名家有：吴熙载(1799-1870)、何绍基(1799-1873)、莫(吕阝)亭(1811-1871)、杨濠叟(1812-1881)、胡不恐(1817-1862)、杨见山(1819-1896)、俞荫甫(1821-1907)、胡荄甫(1825-1872)、赵之谦(1829-1884)、吴大澄(1835-1902)、徐袖海 (1826-1890)、翁叔平(1830-1904)、杨惺吾(1839-1914)，等等。

　　造成清代隶书鼎盛、名家辈出的原因是什么呢？从社会状况来看，清代政冶极不清明。清初读书人为避“文字狱”，把自己的精力移入金石考据领域。当然，由于金石彝器出土日多，也为金石考据的研究提供了物质基础。清代学人治学态度严谨，崇尚“一事不知，儒者之耻”的理念。在这一理念指导下，清代考据学得到空前发展，本不为人所重的残碑、断纸，竟成了考据学家寻觅的瑰宝。清代学者尤重汉隶的研究，如万授一的《分隶偶存》、桂馥的《说隶》、翁方纲的《两汉金石记》、顾炎武的《金石文字记》等，给清代隶书的繁荣昌盛提供了学理上的客观条件．使有清一代隶书家得以对传统隶书进行符合汉字构架的局部改良，从而大大提高了清隶的艺术表现力。

　　从对姐妹艺术的吸取方面来看，将篆刻的若干长处有机地移到隶书的实践中，从而使书法具有“金石味”，以丰富隶书的表现力，这一点邓石如做得很典型。正如魏锡曾所著《绩语堂论印汇录》中指出的：“若完白书从印入，印从书出。”隶书大家邓石如擅篆刻；同样，隶书大家金吉金亦擅篆刻，伊墨卿、陈曼生、何绍基、吴苦铁等清代隶书大家，皆擅篆刻。可以不夸张地说，篆刻拓展了清隶的艺术魅力。

　　从宽泛吸收其他书体优点来看，清隶的营养成分是有分量的。清代隶书家远绍汉隶，对汉碑碑额及碑阴的研习颇见功力。书法赖以存“形”的核心点是抽象，具有表现为时间序列和线性构架的本体规律，有不可逆性和不可约简性。汉隶碑额或碑阴亦具这些属性。这些碑额或碑阴给清代隶书家的启迪是明显的。除了这些碑额或碑阴以外，清代隶书家对魏晋南北朝碑如《范式》、《李仲璇》等也认真临写，当然对诏版、砖文、镜铭也注意取法。正是这样，使清隶打破了传统隶书与其他书体的界限，体现出清代隶书家与时俱进、与时俱新的发展理念。清初隶书成就最高的郑谷口，以草法入隶，其隶书被包慎伯列为“逸品上”；博诵经史、蕴蓄闳深的大学人、大词人朱彝尊以欧法入隶，“笔意秀劲，韵致超逸”（《桐荫论画》句）。此外，金吉金以吴碑入隶，伊墨卿以鲁公楷法人隶……都使隶书呈现出各自的审美取向。这种以正、草、篆籀入隶，动、静相整合的隶书面貌，可渭空前，充分展示了清隶“放意自得”和“心手达情”的时代特色，从而使清隶在形而上和形而下两个层面的张力都得到了显著加强．构成了隶书发展史上一座令人瞩目的高峰。

　　从清隶书家所用的工具观之，亦有长于前辈书家之处。中国文房四宝史告诉我们：宋代以前，总的来说用硬毫笔者占大多数；明代开始，用软毫的才逐渐多起来；具体地说，明以后至清代，羊毫被广泛使用。《频罗庵书画跋》云：“笔要软，软而遒；笔头要长，长则灵。”长锋羊毫有如下特点：一、便于储墨并且储墨量大；二、八面出锋的旋转余地大，适于隶书特色之笔——“燕尾”笔法的运作。读邓石如隶书，可以强烈地感受到长锋羊毫的这些特点。

　　从与时俱进、与时俱新的角度看，清隶具有抒发性灵、解放思想、师汉隶但不为汉隶所束缚的与时俱进、与时俱新的特色，用石涛的话说，就是勇于“借古以开今”。如张文鱼的飞白体隶书，赵之谦的魏碑体隶书，均具有独特的个人风格，充分表现了他们良好的修养、上乘的品格、阔大的襟抱和精湛的功力，真是：“书，如也，如其学，如其才，如其志，总之曰如其人而已。”（刘熙载《艺概·书概》句）

　　从墨色上看，清隶的一大特色是墨色活。活从何来？活从善于用水来。何绍基、赵之谦、吴苦铁等皆为用墨高手，其涨而不烂、润枯相间的施水带墨法，使墨色在隶书中充分地表现了艺术魅力。书法形象的智性把握是“法”，而书法形象的情感酿造，却是“意”。清代隶书高手在“水”这个材料上用尽了心思，充分发掘了墨色的艺术表现力，故清隶在用“水”上给来者留下了极为深刻的理论思考点和实践操作点。

　　清代碑学的先导是清隶的强劲发展。清初帖学垄断，书风单一。由于历史性的文化积习的压力，使书法在以法致道的漫漫长途中艰难地跋涉着。最为明显的是，帖的巧美导致了“馆阁体”对清初书法的侵蚀，从而形成了颓弱的格调低下的局面。清初和这—局面分庭抗礼的关键书体，就是隶书。清隶不仅为碑学在清代的发展开了头，而且清隶始终伴随着有清三百年书法的发展变化而发展变化着。

　　张扬个性的清代隶书
　　众所周知，清代是一个政治上昏聩、腐朽、没落的王朝，而书法尤其隶书却在这个时代得到复兴。这当然不是偶然的。一方面，如前所述，隶书自东汉桓、灵之后，形势急转直下，至宋、元、明三代已少有人问津，“篆籀八分，几于绝迹”[8]。而被尊为帖学鼻祖的“二王”书风，由于得到梁武帝、唐太宗等的极力推崇，长期笼罩书坛。以“二王”为衣钵而失之于“俗”[9]的元人赵孟頫书及失之于“软”[10]的明人董其昌书，本不足为重，却深得明清皇帝的赏识，以致出现了从明季到清初赵、董书风交相辉映，天下附影的局面。加之科举而馆阁体兴，千人一面，一字万同。可以说在“二王”帖学范围内讨生活的清人书法至此已是衰朽至极。物极必反。书法艺术这种自身的矛盾运动，客观上为隶书的复兴积聚了巨大动能，犹如一座巨大的活火山，一触即发。一方面，康、雍、乾时期，清政府为了强化皇权，防止颠覆，加紧了对汉人中学人思想的钳制，以致文网密布。为了逃避残酷的现实，人们不得不转事他行。其中，不少人则致力于古籍的勘理和金石的考证。于是，作为记载着汉代文献史料的碑刻，受到人们的空前青睐。同时，汉碑书法艺术的美学价值也引起了人们的广泛兴趣与重视。许多人考证之余便埋头于汉隶书风的探究，学界由此大兴“汉学”和“尊碑卑帖”之风。显然，是至今想来还令人毛骨悚然的“文字狱”激活了“隶书”这座沉睡了1400多年之久的火山。

　　此外，清初几位先知先觉、具有强烈个性的大家对清隶复兴亦功不可没。首先是傅山。傅山以草、行书名重于世，作风仍属帖学一路。但他从言行上已很透彻地表明了自己尊碑的思想理念。他说：“汉隶之不可思议处，只在硬拙。初无布置等当之意，凡偏旁宽窄，左右疏密，信手行去，一派天机。”[11]尤其是他的四宁四毋（宁拙毋巧，宁丑毋媚，宁支离毋轻滑，宁真率毋安排）[12]的美学思想，更是道出了与妩媚婉秀，充溢着阴柔之美的帖学风范格格不入的艺术主张。他身体力行，行草之外，兼习分隶。尽管尚不成熟，但作品拙朴真率的情趣，一扫晋唐以来八分恶习，在当时具有强烈的反叛意义。因此，傅山可说是清代碑学崛起、隶书中兴的先行者。其次是被誉为“清初三隶”的王时敏、郑簠、朱彝尊。郑、朱二人殚精竭虑，提倡碑学，毕生浸润于金石的研究与考证，且注重实践，创造出了个性鲜明、具有很高艺术价值的八分书体。王时敏于画学虽为复古守旧派代表，但所作八分直追秦汉，带有古气。线条也不象唐隶那样浮滑单薄，用墨上更没有明人那样“黑”、“死”，很讲究苍涩浑润的变化。就这些而言，他的作品较之唐隶还是富有新意的。“清初三隶”的成就，基本代表了清初书坛分隶的水准，为后来的复兴奠定了基础，打开了通路。最后是作为朱明后裔的高僧石涛。石涛以其巨大的绘画成就与创新精神倍受人们钦慕。在书法上，他也是提倡个性解放，尊碑卑帖的一个重要人物。所作八分，“散朴有致，不格绳墨”[13]，气格非凡，为随后的书家冲破晋唐以来隶书樊篱提供了又一崭新的“旗标”。

　　清代隶书复兴的元气得力于清代的金石学、考据学、文字学等朴学文化的滋养，一些汉学家朴学家以其深厚的学术修养，提笔书隶，具有学者风范。兹后兴起的碑学思潮，推波助澜，开拓了书法家们的审美视野，形成了新的隶书审美观。金石碑版简牍不断有新的出土，即使人们眼界大开，又为新的隶书审美观起到了支撑作用。近现代印刷技术普及，传世碑帖珍拓和出土书刻得到较广的传布，极大地方便了人们的学习、研究和晶赏。凡此种种社会文化因素，都对隶书的复兴有着或大或小的促进作用。

　　一、清朝前期的隶书

　　清初隶书首推郑篮，其次有朱彝尊、石涛等。郑篮(1622—1694年)，字汝器，号谷口，上元(今南京)人，终生未仕，以行医为业。隶书初法明人宋珏，后“深悔从前不求原本，乃学汉碑，始知朴而自古，拙而自奇。”他一生专工隶书，一扫魏晋以来的刻极之气，浑厚圆转，沉着飞动，名重一时，被朱彝尊推为“古今第一”。朱彝尊的隶书，以秀逸著称，并和郑篮一起研讨隶书，互相激发。钱泳《履园丛话》：“国初有郑谷口始学汉碑，再从朱竹垞辈讨论之，而汉隶之学复兴。”

　　著名画家石涛的隶书，初受郑篮的影响，后用行书参入隶体，给古朴拙质的隶书注入了鲜活的笔法。“扬州八怪”中的高风翰、汪士慎、金农、高翔、郑板桥等，无不有一手独特的隶书本领。尤以金农的隶书创新性最强，形成了世人称之为“漆书”的艺术形象。与“扬州八怪”有密切往来的西冷篆刻家丁敬、黄易、陈鸿寿等人，在隶书创作上也各有特色，丁、黄两人以工力见长，陈则气势磅礴。这些画家、篆刻家的艺术思维活跃，对隶书的审美创造别具一种眼光，这也是清隶艺术特色有别于汉隶的一大原因。

　　清隶的确立，代表性书家是邓石如和伊秉绶。邓石如(1743—1805年)，初名琰，字石如，后改字顽伯，号完白山人，安徽怀宁人。他对篆书有创造性的发展，对隶书也下过功夫，遍临汉碑达50余种，并对篆、隶笔法互相参用。伊秉绶(1754—1815年)，字组似，号墨卿，福建汀州人，以平直之笔写隶，不在蚕头雁尾上作矫饰，体势宽博，笔力拙质，有大气势，康有为推其为集分书之大成者。当时与伊秉绶齐名的桂馥，也擅长隶书，但风格有异。

　　二、清朝后期的隶书

　　清朝后期的隶书，是在碑学思潮中发展的。阮元、包世臣、康有为的碑学，从南北朝碑版到汉碑的艺术渊源和风格流派，进行了深入探讨，对复兴的清隶给予了高度评价，从而在理论上进一步推进了清隶的发展。

　　何绍基初宗颜真卿，继究北碑，以楷行书体上独创一家，晚年遍临汉隶，每临一碑多至若干通，采用苏东坡提倡的“八面受敌”读书法，每临一遍，专注一端，或取神韵，或取势度，或取用笔，或取行布，致使临书无一通与原碑全似，积而久之，融汇笔端，名曰临碑，实是创作，并影响到他的其他书体创作，卓然成大家。他的汉碑临作曾刊印过。《中国历代法书墨迹大观》十五册刊其隶书屏，浑朴圆转，举重若轻。 赵之谦聪明过人，多才多艺，书画篆刻皆有造诣，篆隶草行莫不精能，用笔流宕，变化多姿。

　　吴熙载是包世臣的入室弟子，精通金石考证，篆刻师法邓石如，擅长篆隶，所临汉碑，振笔有雄风。杨守敬是著名的历史地理学家，曾出使日本，对日本书道的发展有过不小的影响，他的隶书苍劲跃动，带有金石味，从书风渊源上看，有近师杨岘的痕迹。杨岘隶书尚带秀逸之气。
