如果这里把 to 省略了，就会变成 close home.这样的话，close就会被视为动词，（home当然要视为名词），整个词组就会变得不知所云。因为close如果是当做形容词，后面必定得要有个介词的。be close to 是固定的词组，才有【靠近】的意思。

home 可以作为名词也可以作为副词，所以有时候加TO，有时省略作为名词是家的意思作为副词，一般是在家的意思，GO HOME一般表示的就是去在家里，

close to home。。表示离家很近，home既可用作副词也可用作名词，在这里是作名词。所以不省略to

这里home是名词。而close to 是固定短语。所以就不能省略to。
