"修身齐家治国平天下" 英文怎样翻译?
「修身、齐家、治国、平天下」 「修身」是修身养性培养好一己的习性和品格
楼上网友用‘cultivation’是正确的
但另些网友译作‘equip’则有疑问。‘Equip oneself’是装备好自己
例如为了谋生而投考专业资格、为了进修翻译而勤练语文能力等
但这却与本身的品德修为没有必然关系
一个人可以是‘equipped with skills and knowledge’
品格却可能差。‘Cultivate oneself’是培养性情、陶冶品德

并无说治理得好不好
因此要在其后加上形容词
例如‘rule a country well’ 或 ‘manage a country well’。 「平天下」比较难理解
我认为是把天下理顺
使天下太平的意思。‘Conquer’是战胜、攻克、征服； 希特拉企图征服欧洲以至世界
可以说成 Hitler tried to ‘conquer’ Europe and the world
征服了别国而采强权统治必不得民心
如果他真的征服了天下
后果会是甚么样！「修身、齐家、治国、平天下」四件事情都有正面意思
相对下‘conquer’却含眨意
不适合这里采用。如以‘bring peace’取代
有用德政治世而令世人心悦诚服的意思
比较合适
