1941年12月7日 日本偷袭珍珠港太平洋战争爆发1941年12月8日，在日本偷袭珍珠港之后仅仅10个小时，日军就对美国控制下的菲律宾发起了进攻。成功地偷袭了克拉克和伊巴两美军基地后，又在11日对阿巴里机场大肆轰炸。不及一星期，菲岛的制空权已操在日本人手中。日方在空中占了优势后，即准备进攻菲律宾。同月17日，侵菲主力部队由高雄、基隆、马公三处出航。7天后，凭藉舰队炮火之掩护，在吕宋岛的拉蒙湾和仁牙因湾靠岸。拉蒙湾的登陆，本来以为困难重重，结果却很顺利地上了岸，而是在仁牙因湾遭遇到许多料想不到的难题，最终得在尝了不少苦头后，才成功登陆。未开战前，日本人估计菲岛比马来亚容易占领。可是，实际情况刚好相反。日军花了近三倍的时间、费了九牛二虎之力，才于1942年5月6日把美人赶出菲律宾
