而插叙就是在事件中插入一段落使读者更加清晰
倒叙是根据表达的需要，把事件的结局或某个最重要、最突出的片段提到文章的前边，然后再从事件的开头按事情原来的发展顺序进行叙述的方法。
比如，在《永不忘记》一文中采用把情节的结局放在开头叙述，然后再叙述情节的发生、发展的叙述方法。这是最典型的倒叙的方法。文章的第一部分(开头到“她语带感情，几致哽咽”)写潘老师和王翔的父亲、妹妹到车站送王翔上大学，王翔送给潘老师一幅自画像。无限的深情都凝结在一幅画着一个卖冰糕的孩子，写着“永不忘记，谢谢老师”的铅笔画上。画有什么含义?永不忘记什么呢?这种先叙事情结局的手法既曲沂、引人入胜地点了题；又制造出悬念，引起读者急切的关注。这里又借人物对话交代画上的孩子就是王翔，他是个难得的孩子，他能上大学全靠潘老师的帮助。自然地引起倒叙。
插叙是在叙述中心事件的过程中，为了帮助开展情节或刻画人物，暂时中断叙述的线索语文，插入一段与主要情节相关的回忆或故事的叙述方法。如《同志的信任》为表现文章的中心——鲁迅先生是“最可信的同志”的需要，先写鲁迅先生接到方志敏的密信、文稿及看信的经过，再插写方志敏被捕及狱中书写文稿和密信以及托付鲁迅先生，然后再按事情发展的顺序写鲁迅先生如何珍藏密信、文稿和把它们转交给党中央的情况等．
