刘焕军年已耄耋，为把武当武学在南方传播开来，在深圳收徒授艺，所收徒弟很多都是被刘老一招打得腾空而起才拜师的。
刘老授艺时，深感现今武术门派太多，各种功法太过繁多复杂，而且好多功法在实战中根本用不上，便勇敢拿起“奥坎剃刀”，将所学武功精简提炼，创立“击拳道”。
“击拳道”的精髓在于“练就千斤力，用在四两功”，通过作用于人体点、线、面、体上的力点的转变，以及我与对方的线、位和角度的合理运用，并配合手脚的奇妙轨迹变化，以达到以小力胜大力，以巧胜拙的目的。
“击拳道”蕴形意八式，即扑、拍、撞、摁、捻、转、搓、拉；八卦八式，即穿、插、劈、撩、横、撞、扣、翻。太极八式，即掤、捋、挤、摁、采、挒、肘、靠；长拳八式，即搂、打、腾、封、弹、踢、扫、挂。这三十二式散手包含踢打摔拿和行踪过步，手脚相济，任意组合，变化莫测。“击拳道”虽然源自于传统武术，但可在散打竞赛规则下使用，突破了传统武术的禁锢，其将对我国散打事业的发展产生深远的影响。
刘老是采用因材施教的方式教学，运用几何学、物理学及自然科学结合人体运动力学来传授武术，把自己七十多年的武学经验深入浅出的传给后代。其丰富多彩的内容一定会博得武术爱好者的喜爱。刘老希望能在其有生之年，大批造就和培养人才，使祖国的武术事业后继有人，并能将武当武术推向世界。
1983年任辽宁省云鹏武术表演团总教练，携子刘效良、刘勇等，于全国各地巡回表演。其间于桂林师范大学讲课授艺。创闾山派。
1985年成立北宁市武术协会，并任副主席。主持辽宁、吉林、河北三省武术擂台邀请赛。辽宁省武协主席王庆斋，东北猴王、《东厂喋血》主演鲁云岭以及辽宁体育学院曾带队出席美国白宫、《武当》主演孟祥太等到场助贺。
1991年被中国武当拳法研究会聘为总顾问。
1995年被中国武当武术开发中心聘为总顾问、总教练。1997年被授予特级拳师。道家紫袍（壬金）九段。
1996年被中国武当武术学校聘为总顾问、总教练。
1999年在研究了国内外各派拳种技击技法特点的基础上，凭借深厚的传统武术功底，集毕生对武学研究及实践成果，运用人体运动力学的原理，将内外两家武术的精要提炼成搏击散手——“击拳道”。
2001年被美国中医药太极国术研究院聘为教授。
2002年被中国武当武术联合会聘为顾问。
2003年被阜新首届张三丰全国武当武术精英邀请赛授予“中国武当武术特级大师”。被香港武当文武研究学会聘为名誉会长、总顾问。
2005年5月中国武当武术联合会授予中国武当武术特别贡献奖；
获得北京大学首届中华武术国际论坛优秀论文奖、成就奖；
被武林网聘为顾问；
被北京大学武术研究中心聘为顾问。6月入选《世界优秀专家人才名典》（入编号052-048-12）
培养了陈占水（大连陆军学院武术教官，上校）、匡建军（衡阳市体委武术教练）、赵守礼（十堰市武当拳法研究会会长）、谢紫英（中国武当拳法研究会理事）、刘明德（深圳市武当拳法研究会会长、深圳市青少年宫武术教练）、黎小玲（2000’哈尔滨全国太极拳锦标赛陈式太极拳冠军、2001’广东顺德全国太极拳锦标赛42式太极拳42式太极剑冠军）、“二指禅”蒋剑、韩庆浩（大亚湾核电运营有限公司技术总指挥，善技击散打）、李清福（2001’永年国际联谊会杨式、武当、陈式太极拳均获第一名）、王敬峰（2003’全国传统武术锦标赛太极拳冠军）、刘守仁、史珏东、晏洪涛、刘艳丽（香港首届国际武术邀请赛双刀冠军）、黄建新等一大批武术界名家。事迹多次在《武当》、《武林》、《武魂》、《搏击》、《中国体育报》、《南方都市报》及《人民日报·海外版》等报刊上刊载。入选《当代中华武术大典》之卷二《中华太极人物志》、《当代中华武坛精英名录》、《中国武当武术家大辞典》、《武当武术志》。出版了《武当断环掌》（《武当》专刊）、《鲲鹏逍遥法》、《武当仙祖张三丰》、《心机通臂拳》、《近代武侠风云录》、《飞龙八卦掌》、《太极玄宫掌》等。
