单纯的来讲，我觉得后面这个词组更像是as it is usual，举个栗子：John had some soup after diner as it is usual, but he didn't do that often.这句话是我为了讲明白这个词组造出来的 - -
约翰晚饭后“像往常一样”喝了汤，可是他不经常这么做。
再看。
John had some soup after diner as usual, because he do that very often.
约翰晚饭后像往常一样喝了汤，因为他经常这么做。
第一句的usual词组比较偏向于“伪装”这个概念，就是平常并不这么做但是现如今却这么做了，而且很像是一直以来的习惯。第二句的我想你能够很明白的理解，就是单纯的直面意思。
第二个问题嘛。as usually通常放在句首，没有特别的意思，跟句尾或者句中的as usual没区别。就是不能放在句中和句尾就是了 - -
因为usually是个副词。

前面的as usual应该是做状语的，而后面的as is usual应该是定语从句。
as usual 是固定短语，意思是和往常一样；不用逗号和句子隔开，例如：Mary's out on the racket as usual.玛丽像往常一样外出寻乐去了。
as usually 是通常的意思，一般用在句子开头，用逗号和句子隔开。例如As usually, we watched TV after dinner.
