老四蒲劳：据说他生活在海边，平时最怕的就是鲸鱼，每每遇到鲸鱼袭击时，蒲牢就大叫不止，并将撞钟的大长木雕成鲸鱼状，以其撞钟，求其声大而亮。
老五狻猊（音：算泥）：又称金猊、灵猊。形状像狮，好烟火，又好坐，庙中佛座及香炉上能见其风采。 老六赑屃（音：必系）：也称龟。形状像乌龟，好负重， 长年累月地驮载着石碑。 人们在庙院祠堂里，处处可以看到这位任劳任怨的大力士。
老七狴犴（音：必案）：又叫宪章。 其貌像虎，虎是威猛之兽，人们便将其刻铸在监狱的门上，增强监狱的威严，让罪犯们望而生畏。
老八负屃（戏）：似龙形，排行老八，平生号文，是被两旁的文龙是其形象。
老九螭（ 音：吃）吻：龙形的吞脊兽，口阔嗓粗，平生好吞，殿脊两端的卷尾龙头是其形象。
龙生九子是指龙生九个儿子，九个儿子都不成龙，各有不同。所谓“龙生九子”，并非龙恰好生九子。中国传统文化中，以九来表示极多，有至高无上地位，九是个虚数，也是贵数，所以用来描述龙子。龙有九子这个说法由来已久，但是究竟是哪九种动物一直没有说法，直到明朝才出现了各种说法。
