“爷爷，我看见小松鼠的大尾巴闪了一下。”小孙子又高兴得叫了起来。
“小松鼠也上这儿来安家了吗？有意思。”
“爷爷，地上一团一团的，是什么东西呀？”
“那是猫头鹰吃了田鼠以后吐出来的残骸。这么说，猫头鹰也住进来了。”
“还有……”
“啊，那是林貂的粪便。”
“啊，爷爷，我明白了：这棵大树，它快变成动物招待所了。”
“这棵大树还有别的用处吗？孩子你再仔细观察观察。”
小孙子围着大树转了一圈，摘了一颗鲜红鲜红的、又甜又酸的草莓送进爷爷嘴里，说：“爷爷，我看到了！它的周围长了许多小灌木。”
“你看看树干。”
小孙子瞧了瞧树干，那上面长满了一丛丛水灵灵的、半透明的东西。
“新鲜的木耳，原来它长在死了的树干上。”
“你再看看地面。”
小孙子又仔细地看了看周围的地面，兴奋得跳了起来：“蘑菇！爷爷，那么多蘑菇。灰色的，黄色的，真有意思，它们长得多肥壮！”
没有一个孩子不爱捡蘑菇的，又好看，又有趣，做熟了还特别好吃。捡哪，捡哪，小孙子很快就捡满了一帽子。
“够了，够了。”爷爷阻拦说，“留下一些给那些小松鼠、小野兔和小刺猬吃吧！”
小孙子说：“爷爷，这棵大树真有意思，我原来以为它死了以后就没有什么用处了，其实并不是这样。”
“说得对，孩子。”老爷爷一边抚摩着大树，一边说，“一棵大死了，更多的生命在这儿住下来了，不仅有动物，还有植物。“
老爷爷望着这棵成为动物新家的大树，望着这片长满草莓、蘑菇的土地，欣慰地笑了
