在《史记》上白起跟王翦是在同一列传里，意味着在司马迁的心里，王翦和白起是能够齐名的。据史载，白起，嬴姓白氏，名起，其先祖为秦国公族，故《战国策》中又称公孙起。郿人即今陕西眉县人，战国时期秦国名将。白起号称”人屠“，与廉颇、李牧、王翦并称为战国四大名将，位列战国四大名将之首。白起生长的年代，秦国的国力已经十分强大了，此时的秦国，想要东进谋取更多的利益，秦国的目标不是不为别的，就为这一统天下的霸业，这时候正是秦国需要良将为自己打天下的时期，白起的出现时应运而生。王翦可以说是自白起之后秦国最优秀的将领，主要战绩有破赵国都城邯郸，消灭燕、赵；以秦国绝大部分兵力消灭楚国。与其子王贲一并成为秦始皇兼灭六国的最大功臣。
