工匠蚁不适合用椰土养，可以用亚克力蚁巢进行干养，室内的自然湿度足以保证其生存。因为蚂蚁主要是依靠体壁气孔进行呼吸，如果空气湿度太小，就会导致脱水。当然，不同的蚂蚁对湿度的耐受力都有所不同，并不是湿度越高越好。（一） 猛蚁
目前市面上常见的猛蚁由猎镰猛蚁，敏捷扁头猛蚁，山大齿猛蚁（难养活），聚纹双刺猛蚁，红足穴猛蚁（懒）。
除了山大齿猛蚁外，其余猛蚁较易养活，原因在于山大齿猛蚁生存在深山泥巴地中，对湿度要求过高，非最南方地区（广东、广西、海南、云南），环境湿度难以保持在较大湿度。
猛蚁不爱干净，对于垃圾以及死去尸体的堆放没有归类整理的意识，经常将泥巴和屎涂抹的到处都是。
猛蚁繁殖较慢，出工较慢，同时猛蚁蚁后与普通工蚁大小几乎无差异，多数猛蚁可以无后繁殖。
