黄土中碳酸盐含量的变化可以反映黄土形成过程中的古气候特征，碳酸盐在黄土地层中的纵向波动反映了气候暖湿-干冷的旋回变化，它可作为东亚夏季风变化的一个替代性指标（卢演俦，1981；文启中等，1989；安芷生等，1991）。我们对曹村剖面以5cm间距采样，用中国科学院南京地理与湖泊研究所研制的碳酸盐测试仪做碳酸盐测定，结果显示古土壤中碳酸盐含量较低，S4、S5、S6、S8、S9的碳酸盐含量接近于零，而黄土中碳酸盐含量偏高，L5、L6、L7、L9可达30%左右（图5-6）。曹村剖面碳酸盐总体变化特征：L4以上碳酸盐含量变化幅度很小，仅在L2处出现峰值；S4-S8碳酸盐含量波动较大；L8S15碳酸盐含量较低，波动幅度较小；L16-L33碳酸盐波动幅度较大。从剖面碳酸盐分布特征看，在黄土层发育时期碳酸盐波动频繁于磁化率和粒度变化，这可能为在干冷的时期短暂的夏季风加强导致降水增加在地层中的响应。
