金刚石/钻石中的包裹体是揭示金刚石/钻石成因来源最重要的特征。关于世界上不同产地金刚石/钻石的包裹体组成及其特征的研究成果非常丰富，前人曾对这个部分的研究成果进行过多次全面的综述（Sobolev，1977；Meyer，1987；肖化云等，2001；Stachela & Harris，2008）。在岩石圈地幔形成的金刚石/钻石，其包裹体组合的类型主要可以分为橄榄岩型（P）和榴辉岩型（E）两类，另外还有一类是处于中间状态的二辉岩型（W）。除此以外，还有来源与下地幔的包裹体及与俯冲作用有关的包裹体组合，其中橄榄岩型组合和榴辉岩型主要根据其石榴子石和单斜辉石的成分进行区分（橄榄岩型石榴子石Cr2O3>1%，单斜辉石的Cr#=100×Cr/（Cr+Al）大于7～10），但二辉岩型包裹体的特征具有过渡性质，可以见到石榴子石和单斜辉石及斜方辉石共存的情况，和榴辉岩比，它们一般有更高的Mg#和Cr#，但具有更低的Ca的含量w（CaO）<6%（Grutter et al.，2004），具有不同类型包裹体组合的金刚石/钻石被认为是在不同地幔环境形成的（图9.2），其包裹体矿物具有不同的成分组成，据此，橄榄岩型的包裹体组合又可以进一步细分为方辉橄榄岩型、二辉橄榄岩型和异剥辉石橄榄岩型三类（图9.3，图9.4）。
根据我们收集的世界典型克拉通金刚石/钻石矿山的资料（见附表4），可以将不同的矿山划分为三种类型：
