孔庙祭第二等。因有12人，故称“十二哲”。初名十哲，始于唐开元八年（720年）。国子司业李元认为颜子配享为立像不合礼制规定，四科弟子闵损等列像庙堂不参享祀，而何休等22位先儒反沾从祀不妥，“岂有升堂入室之子独不沾春秋配享之余”，建议以四科弟子祭。朝廷接受他的建议，命以圣门四科弟子（德行：颜渊、闵子骞、冉伯牛、仲弓；言语：宰我、子贡；政事：冉有、季路；文学：子游、子夏） 祭，均为坐像。 清康熙五十一年（1712年）升朱熹位居十哲之后，乾隆三年（1747年）升有若为十二哲之一，居颛孙师之后、朱熹之前。十二哲配祀于大成殿内，位于殿内东西两端，每端各6位：东面为闵损（子骞）、冉雍（仲弓）、端木赐（子贡）、仲由（子路）、卜商（子夏）、有若（子若）；西面为冉耕（伯牛）、宰予（子我）、冉求（子有）、言偃（子游）、颛孙师（子张）、朱熹（元晦）。
十哲原有塑像，明嘉靖九年（1530年）更定孔庙祀典，撤像改为木主。曲阜孔庙仍准保留塑像，增加朱熹、有若后也塑像奉祀。今曲阜孔庙东西各有6尊塑像，每两尊为一龛。塑像者冕旒衮服，冕九旒，服九章，手执躬圭。像前木主书“先贤某子某神位”。原塑像为清雍正七年塑，“文化大革命”初期被毁，1983年重塑。
