编曲难一些。
许编曲需要的技巧稍高，但两者可以说属于相辅相成的关系。以进入的门槛来说，编曲当然是需要比较高的门槛，除了要懂乐理，各种曲风要搭配什麽乐器，哪种乐器可以演奏哪种旋律，哪些乐器放在一起听起来比较丰富等等。
编曲的重要度也不见得是像上面所说的，因为某些创作人本身具备的能力，像是陶喆王力宏周杰伦等等，有可能编曲家所拿到的创作demo已经是有些完整编排的部分，只要照著原本架构去做修改或是增减，就可以完成编曲的工作。
因此端看制作人或是作曲者是否要让编曲家发挥自身的创意，或是仅仅让他们作技术上的操作，这部份单凭听他们的音乐是听不出来的。只能说如果真的可以团队合作，一定比单打独斗强。

选定好风格后开始选择乐器，选乐器的时候还要考虑歌手的特点，乐器中那些是录真实乐器那些用音色采样。接下来就是安排结构，要不要前奏，前奏用什么乐器solo，主歌用什么乐器伴奏，乐器用什么音色，用什么和弦，如何把副歌的感情推出来，间奏怎么编配，尾奏怎么编配。
编曲对于作曲的作用是很大的。很多准备编曲的歌曲，拿来后一看就只是一个单乐段或双乐段的主题，完全就是一个毛胚这就需要进行很深刻的加工。
作曲难一些。
作曲运用基本乐理，和声学，复调，配器法，曲式结构的技术理论体系来表达创作者音乐思想的方法。各个国家，各个历史时期的创作风格和技术方法各有不同，大致分为巴洛克时期，古典派，浪漫派，现代派各种风格。
作曲家是指能够创作一定音乐作品，有一定程度和深度的作曲能力，作曲功底，作曲技术，作曲理论的音乐家。其个人有很高的音乐素养，音乐能力，音乐知识储备，体现在严肃音乐创作与学术研究方面。
而编曲是商业唱片中由于商业运作衍生出的一种职业。为只为乐曲创作曲调的人。不论商业唱片中的艺人还是大众群体，并不是每个人都受过专业的作曲训练，所以大部分人在音乐上的创作能力仅限于谱曲。商业唱片中，谱曲者会与相对专业的作曲者合作。创作一个曲调后，相对专业的作曲者再进行乐曲的编配与设计。
我认为是作曲更加难一些，毕竟作曲是灵魂，作曲是从无到有的，但是编曲是在一个已经成型的曲子上面进行改变，这是本质上的不同。
