首先
stop doing 表示停止你现在正在做的事情。
而stop to do表示停止后去做某件事情。

例句

the teacher is coming.let's stop talking
意思是老师来了，我们停止说话吧，如果写stop to talk意思是，我们停止去说话，

就不符合题意了

stop doing 指停止做某事
stop to do指停下来去做某事，如
When the teacher came in ,the students stopped talking at once.
He is too tired . He has to stop to have a rest .
