PISA（Program for International Student Assessment)评估主要分为三个领域：阅读素养、数学素养及科学素养，由此可以看出数学素养在学生成长中的重要地位。《数学课程标准》（2011）告诉我们：数学是人类文化的重要组成部分，数学素养是现代社会每一个公民应该具备的基本素养。作为促进学生全面发展教育的重要组成部分，数学教育既要使学生掌握现代生活和学习中所需要的数学知识与技能，更要发挥数学在培养人的理性思维和创新能力方面的不可替代的作用。由此可见，数学素养对于一个合格公民的重要意义，作为一名初中数学教师，理应在自己的数学教学中主动培养学生的数学核心素养。
数学核心素养是什么？简单的来说，数学核心素养就是你现在所学的数学知识，当你多年以后，再问你，你大脑中还剩下的东西就是我们所说的数学核心素养。换句话说，你现在所学的都是一些显性的数学知识，而通过学习数学知识，以数学知识为载体，训练我们的数学思维和能力是隐性的，长期下来留给我们的就是数学的本质的东西----数学核心素养。这个才是学生真正需要的东西，是学生受用终生的东西，也是我们作为数学教师首要考虑的东西。那到底怎样去通过我们的数学教学主动去培养学生的数学核心素养呢？
首先，要通过我们的数学教学让学生喜欢数学，兴趣是最好的老师，只有学生喜欢上数学，才有可能去主动了解、探索数学的奥秘。在数学教学中，教师要给学生营造探究学习、主动学习的情境氛围，突破过去单一、枯燥、无趣的课堂教学模式，激起学生的学习热情。从以往数学教学经验来看，大多数学困生对数学知识不感兴趣，主要原因是他们认为数学知识离自己的现实生活很远，数学知识只是一种理论和形式。因此为了转化学困生的错误思想，提高学生的主动学习兴趣，教师要根据学生的认知水平及情绪状态创设生活化学习情境，给学生提出生活化的问题，让学生在解决问题时深刻体会数学知识的重要性。真实的数学情境促使学生产生了学习动力与探究热情，积极主动地参与到学习过程中。
其次，作为数学老师在上课时，不能仅仅局限于把数学概念的内涵讲解清楚，更要注重数学核心概念的外延知识，例如我们学习字母表示数这一节课，书上是先从学生熟悉的，小学时学过的三角形面积公式、梯形面积公式，以及一些运算规律如加法交换律、加法结合律、乘法交换律、乘法结合律等告诉学生，用字母表示数我们并不陌生，在小学我们就学过，而且一直在用。只是当时没有告诉你们这就是字母表示数。那字母表示数还在哪里用过？在找规律的题中用到过字母表示数。到这里字母表示数的常规应用基本上就是这些。新课可以结束了，但是这样的上法还是在传授数学知识，还是仅仅停留在数学知识的学习上，数学核心素养的培养没有涉及。字母表示数实质上就是培养和发展学生的符号意识。如果我们稍加拓展一下，字母除了可以表示数？还可以表示什么？就会有学生说，字母a，b，c可以表示序号，字母a，b，c还可以表示一些直线。字母还可以赋予它很多实际的意义。反过来，生活中的很多东西，也可以用一些符合代替，例如二战中使用的密码。这样以来，学生学到的不仅仅是那些数学知识，而是知识背后所蕴含的数学核心素养。
再次，在我们的数学教学中主动的渗透一些数学方法和数学思想。数学的基本思想，根据其内容，可以总结为数学抽象、数学推理、数学建模、数形结合、数学函数、数学统计、分类转化等几类重要的数学思想及解题思路，与这些数学基本思想对应的是诸如图像法、待定系数法、配方法、换元法等数学方法，对这些思想及方法，教师应重点加以阐述，并鼓励学生在数学学习过程中加以印证及应用。而数学知识的学以致用，则有助于巩固中学学生的数学核心素养，在这一环节，教师可以在教学过程中创建生活化色彩较浓的数学问题，让学生能够在思考现实问题时，可以采用数学思维及逻辑，通过数形结合及几何思维，使学生可以将数学知识真正地学以致用。
总之，数学核心素养的形成不是一朝一夕就可以完成的，需要我们数学教师在我们的数学教学过程的每一个环节，每一个细微之处，都能主动的去培养和发展学生的数学核心素养。只有这样做，我们才是在真正的教数学，才能真正的培养出社会需要的合格公民。
