首先,现实问题是历史问题的延续。在现实中,很多民族问题的产生都是有着深远的历史根源的。在新中国建立前,新疆问题和西藏问题都是有一定的社会历史背景的。西藏和新疆的分裂活动和思潮,都是有着直接的历史延续性和继承性的。其次,历史因素在现实问题中有重要的影响。在民族问题的产生和发展过程中,除了现实对于历史有继承和延续之外,更为重要的一点就是,历史因素在现实问题中重新被发掘出来,以至于在社会现实中产生巨大的影响。
三、民族问题和宗教问题的交织
民族问题往往与少数民族地区的宗教信仰、民族习俗牵扯到一起，宗教意识、心理也会对民族心理产生一定影响，加剧了族际间的隔阂和纠纷。一些地区和国家的民族冲突往往以宗教冲突的形式表现出来,而宗教之间的差异也加剧了民族之间的隔阂和纠纷。
